I'm Huma Imtiaz (pronouns: she/hers) and I'm running to serve as commissioner for (the newly redrawn) ANC5E04. I've lived in Bloomingdale since 2013 and am grateful for the opportunity to serve this wonderful community that we get to call home. I’m originally from Pakistan and have lived in Washington, D.C., since 2011. I’m an avid runner, a slow cyclist (that First Street hill gets me each time), and a newbie swimmer.  In addition to my day job as a communications professional, I currently serve as the president of the volunteer-run executive committee of the LeDroit Park Community Garden, which serves residents of Bloomingdale, LeDroit Park and surrounding neighborhoods. I've been endorsed by Erin Palmer, DC Voters for Animals, and Greater Greater Washington!

Paid for by Huma Imtiaz, 150 V Street NW V308, Washington DC 200001

ANC5E04 Campaign Update: Summer is Over Edition

Don't want to jinx it, but it feels like fall is here -- although I did see my first cicada of the year (ugh) that came to visit us in Bloomingdale, so not sure if they've decided to stick around for a while!

Now to the fun part - updates!

Where I've been!

  • Knocking on doors to hear from SMD5E04 members about their concerns, questions and suggestions.
  • Filling out questionnaires! Vote411 - a voter guide by League of Women Voters - has a comprehensive rundown of what'll be on your ballot for this election, and you can read about where I stand on key issues.
  • At the Ward 5 Open Streets event which was very fun, even in the heat.
  • Attending public safety meetings. Michele Keegan, who is running for ANC over in 507, posted a comprehensive recap of the ANC meeting. I also attended a townhall by the leadership of MPD's Third District. My two cents: we need MPD to engage with the community in a holistic way — actually talking to neighbors and building relationships and trust. I've been hearing from residents on this already and am looking forward to engaging in more comprehensive discussions on this issue.

In other news...

We have yard signs! Please let me know if you would like one for your yard/porch/front window/location of choice, I’d be happy to drop one off. I'd also like to extend a huge thanks to the neighbors that have placed them in their yard already -- as you can see, they look quite spiffy. I'll be placing some around the neighbohood as well.

And finally — donations! If you’d like to contribute to the campaign, please click on the ActBlue link – any amount below $25 would be very much appreciated, good vibes will also do!
