I'm Huma Imtiaz (pronouns: she/hers) and I'm running to serve as commissioner for (the newly redrawn) ANC5E04. I've lived in Bloomingdale since 2013 and am grateful for the opportunity to serve this wonderful community that we get to call home. I’m originally from Pakistan and have lived in Washington, D.C., since 2011. I’m an avid runner, a slow cyclist (that First Street hill gets me each time), and a newbie swimmer.  In addition to my day job as a communications professional, I currently serve as the president of the volunteer-run executive committee of the LeDroit Park Community Garden, which serves residents of Bloomingdale, LeDroit Park and surrounding neighborhoods. I've been endorsed by Erin Palmer, DC Voters for Animals, and Greater Greater Washington!

Paid for by Huma Imtiaz, 150 V Street NW V308, Washington DC 200001

ANC5E04 CAMPAIGN UPDATE: ALMOST WEEKEND EDITION

Back in town after a week away! Being on holiday is wonderful but there’s no place like home.

What I’ve been up to:

Getting sand out of my shoes after a week at the beach.

This week, I also attended the Bloomingdale Civic Association meeting where neighbors highlighted the complex nature of the crimes that they’re seeing in the area, as well as issues re: the MPD response.

I also joined the ANC 5E meeting last night. Of interest to folks – DC Department of Transportation reps highlighted two upcoming projects – one, their longawaited plans on finally filling in the missing connection on the Metropolitan Branch Trail and adding a protected bike lane in Brookland (HUZZAH!), as well as plans to create a new green space at the intersection of Quincy Place and Lincoln Road (just off of North Capitol St).

I've already heard concerns about the latter project — it does not look like this is coupled with any traffic safety measures that residents in the area have been repeatedly asking for. Love a green space, but this is an opportunity for DC agencies to really make this intersection (and the North Cap corridor) safer for all. Stay tuned to this space for more updates.

Upcoming! I’ll be out door knocking most evenings / weekends over the next few weeks. I’ll also be attending Art All Night in our surrounding neighborhood + the Greater Greater Washington fall mixer taking place later next Wednesday — come say hi if you’ll be there!
