I'm Huma Imtiaz (pronouns: she/hers) and I'm running to serve as commissioner for (the newly redrawn) ANC5E04. I've lived in Bloomingdale since 2013 and am grateful for the opportunity to serve this wonderful community that we get to call home. I’m originally from Pakistan and have lived in Washington, D.C., since 2011. I’m an avid runner, a slow cyclist (that First Street hill gets me each time), and a newbie swimmer.  In addition to my day job as a communications professional, I currently serve as the president of the volunteer-run executive committee of the LeDroit Park Community Garden, which serves residents of Bloomingdale, LeDroit Park and surrounding neighborhoods. I've been endorsed by Erin Palmer, DC Voters for Animals, and Greater Greater Washington!

ANC5E04 Campaign Update: What a Week

This morning I cycled over (yep, in this heat) to the D.C. Board of Elections to submit the required signatures (and then some!) from 5E04 neighbors to get on the ballot for the position of ANC Commissioner for the upcoming elections!

First, I want to thank ALL of the folks I’ve met from our SMD and beyond - your support has been incredible and means the world to me.

Second, in the last week I’ve had dozens of conversations with neighbors about their concerns and hopes for the community. I’ve been bowled over by some of the suggestions we’ve received on making our neighborhoods even greater. Some are (fingers crossed!) quick fixes (like getting a trash can at a high-traffic intersection), and some will need lots of elbow grease.

I hear you - our streets are a worry for everyone, as is personal safety. What also resonated–across the board–is that we need better road design, more traffic safety measures, and working towards systemic changes that address the root causes of violence and inequality. We also need to work towards getting our neighborhoods key amenities. For example - while we have stores that are working to fill the gap, we’re in a grocery store desert (but hopefully not for long!).

Over the next few months, I’ll be knocking on doors to hear from you directly. Please reach out at humaimtiaz5E04[@]gmail[dot]com if you’d like to set up a time for me to come by or feel free to send an email with questions/thoughts/concerns.

I'm running for Commissioner for ANC5E04!

Hi everyone! I'm Huma Imtiaz (pronouns: she/hers) and I'm running to serve as commissioner for (the newly redrawn) ANC5E04.

I've lived in Bloomingdale since 2013 and am grateful for the opportunity to serve this wonderful community that we get to call home.

In addition to my day job as a communications professional, I currently serve as the president of the volunteer-run executive committee of the LeDroit Park Community Garden, which serves residents of Bloomingdale, LeDroit Park and surrounding neighborhoods. I’ve been part of the executive committee since 2019 and alongside other volunteers, have helped fundraise and advocate for the community garden. In coordination with DC agencies, we’ve worked to make much-needed improvements to our green spaces.

As your ANC commissioner, my top goal would be to advocate for making our neighborhood a safer, greener, and more equitable community that can be enjoyed by all, and to be a resource to our neighbors, old and new. I would push for policies that help mitigate the effects of climate change, foster a sense of community, and help improve the livability of our neighborhood.

I am an advocate for affordable housing, a robust public transportation system, and making our streets safer for everyone. I believe strongly in making Vision Zero a reality so that everyone - no matter their mode of transportation - can feel safe on our streets. One death on our streets is one too many.

A little about me: I’m originally from Pakistan and have lived in Washington, D.C., since 2011. I’m an avid runner, a slow cyclist (that First Street hill gets me each time), and a newbie swimmer.

Bloomingdale is a vibrant and thriving neighborhood that is rich in history and reflective of the diversity of D.C., and I am passionate about giving back to the community that I've gotten to call home for nearly a decade now.

Please email me your concerns, questions and suggestions humaimtiaz5E04[at]gmail[dot]com – I would love to hear from you! I look forward to getting to meet many of you in the days and weeks to come.

About ANC5E04: This is a newly redrawn Single Member District (SMD), the boundaries of which will go in effect on January 1, 2023. You can look up your address to see which SMD you live in here. If you are a registered voter in this SMD, I am collecting signatures now to get on the ballot in November. I hope to meet you in person soon!
